Agony and Irony: Alkaline Trio
Alkaline Trio have released a new album called Agony and Irony to the public after joining a new label. Dropping from the record company V2 due to problems with their previous unsuccessful record, Alkaline Trio has joined Epic Records. The new release has a very old school punk sound to it mixed in with a new alternative sound. Alkaline Trio claimed that this album is the most "organic" album due to the natural approaching of the record. A more techno sounding album comapred to their other ones such as Maybe I'll Catch Fire, the cd brings forth a whole new sound that both old fans will like and new fans will love.
From First To Last: From First To Last
The new From First To last album is like contrasting white and black. Without lead singer Sonny Moore the band has taken the old sound and changed it drastically. The songs seem to have more meaning but deal with internal affairs instead of relationship problems. Songs such as We All Turn Back To Dust starts off with lyrics, "Little soul you're dreams are waiting/ Grab them up/ Hold them closely/ Never let go/ Never let go." Contrary to what people beleive, the loss of Sonny has not affected the bands music. After losing a crucial member of their band, From First To Last stepped up to their "A" game and created an album that will blow away the minds of new and old fans.
Casey may be gone but the show must go on for Hawthorne Heights. The new album, in my opinion, is some of their best music that the band has ever created. The lyrics are still emotional and over exaggerated but they are not as emo as they used to be. Also the guitars have a new sound with different sounding riffs and a higher pitch to them. The band also seems to be playing with added machinery effects. On the song Untill The Judgement Day in the beginning of the song JT Woodruff's voice takes on an odd sounding tone that fits the song. One of the biggest and most noticeable differences in the new album is the screaming or lack thereof. Compared to orevious albums the screaming has gone down quite a bit. A good album that I would listen to a couple of times. In my honest opinion, I'd give it three stars.
There aren't that many good cd's to review this week so the new review is going to be on Norma Jean's The Anti Mother. This is the band's 6th album and it is one of their best. Compared to previous albums it is one of the most instrumental that they have delivered. Vocals sound more or less the same but the instruments are unbeleivable. On one of the tracks, "Opposite Of Left And Wrong" the intro has one of the greatest guitar intros that has been produced in a long time. it's a high pitch wail that instantly draws your attention. Another song, "Death Of The Anti Mother" is one of the most mellow but hardcore songs that drives you insane trying to wrap your mind around it. This cd is definetly one of the best that Norma Jean has unleashed into the metal, harcore, screamo scene and should be picked up immediately and played continuously at your next party.
